Is DL Right for You? -- Things to Consider Before Signing Up
  Parents           Students         DL Quizzes
Before deciding whether DL with Gold Trail will fit your educational needs and personal circumstances, students and parents need to consider:
  • who is likely to succeed with distributed learning
  • whether you have some of the characteristics to be a successful online student
  • the expectations of the parent or guardian as a facilitator in their child's education

Based on feedback from both teachers and parents who have been involved with distributed learning around the province, we have listed a few characteristics below that are indicators of success in a DL program. As in all schools, we want each and every student to feel successful and to be successful. However, students cannot always accomplish this on their own. We believe the level of support and commitment of the parent or guardian can positively influence student success.

Successful online learner characteristics include...

  • Learners who are motivated
  • Learners who can work independently and are willing to learn
  • Learners who know how to organize their time and tasks
  • Learners who have support of a responsible adult to work with them and supervise their progress

Please look over this various links on this web site to find out more details about what GTDL offers and how to register for one or more of the classes.

Distributed Learning Quizzes

Here are two Distributed Learning Quizzes you can use with to determine if distributed learning is for you. Learning online or through distributed learning is different from learning in a regular classroom. One thing that you notice right away is that there may be more reading and writing than in a classroom because that is the primary way of communicating with others online.

Before you sign up for an online or distributed learning course, it’s important that you determine whether or not you are likely to be successful in this learning environment. To help you with this, we have two quizzes you can use to help determine what it takes to learn in an online/distributed learning setting and what kind of supports you may need to be successful.

The first quiz helps to determine if you has the required technology skills, especially access to and a level of comfort with computers. Technology Quiz.

The second quiz helps students identify if you have the requisite learning preferences, attitudes and work habits. Learning Styles Quiz.
